It’s Mental Health Awareness month, have I mentioned that before?!
So I thought, being as my blogroll is a seemingly endless list of incredible reads, I’d do some pimping of the folks who are working their asses off to change public opinion on mental health.
Firstly you need to check out Breaking the Silence, a blog that covers every aspect of mental health; having it, living with it, living with someone with it, recovering from it. You name it, it’s there. Not only that, they’re on Facebook too so if you’re not a fan of blogs, there’s still no excuse. Become a fan and you can keep up to date with all the fantastic posts and show your support.
Next up, and posting daily during Mental Health Month, is Sugar Filled Emotions. Covering excellent topics from how sex affects your mental health to the details of depression, if you want to know about mental health issues or how to avoid them this blog will invaluable to you. If you have a mental illness it will help you along, prove to you that you’re not alone and give you some ideas on how to look after yourself. Also on Facebook so again you have no excuse, get following!
A fantastic, first hand look at living with mental health problems comes from Ali at Purple Noise. She’s been through the mill, and that is putting it very mildly, and she’s still fighting on, and with an excellent sense of humour. She can tell you what not to wear when seeing your psychiatrist, how it feels to show your scars and even how to make frozen yoghurt! She’s an inspiration and a hooby groovy one at that!
For those who suffer with, or are want to understand OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) the blog you need is Mean Old Mrs Marigold. An incredibly open and honest account of just what it is like to live with something so debilitating and the harsh realities that are not shown in the press. If you think that you could do with “a touch of OCD” to help you get on top of your housework, she’ll make you think again. Fantastically written from the point of view of “Mrs Marigold” (the OCD) it will make you stop and think.
And I’m done
Happy Friday!
