Oh how long have I waited to join in with Ranty Friday! Since I found out about it I’ve been wanting to but for some reason I haven’t felt ranty lately! But today I do. Today of all day’s, being International Women’s Day, I needed to get it all off my chest. So prepare your unfollow button, for one is not amused!
Ah bummer, my main rant was going to be that there’s no International Men’s Day, but it turns out there is…
However, I’m still going to rant on it because seriously, who has heard of International Men’s Day? I certainly hadn’t! I had to tweet and Google to find out it even existed! Yet International Women’s Day is out there, splashed about all over the shop with people congratulating each other on being women, yea, I’m not even kidding, I saw it happen!
Anyway, less of that now, back to what I’ve ranted about previously: feminism. I shudder at the word. I don’t consider myself a feminist. I want equality, sure, but because I want choice. I want the children I have yet to have to have the opportunity to live how they want, I want the opportunity to live how I want. I don’t want to be forced into a new box instead of the old one, that’s not progress, that’s ridiculous. I want people to support me when I say I want to be a SAHM and a devoted wife, not to tell me that I’m flying in the face of all that feminism has fought for.
See women are their own worst enemies. The infighting in women’s communities is painful to watch; breast vs bottle, SAHM vs working mother, curvy vs skinny, the list could go on forever. We bitch, we fight, we use our words to destroy. It’s shameful, it’s not doing the cause any good at all. We look like a bunch of silly women cat fighting, is it any wonder we’re still not taken seriously?
See what we really need, more than a day dedicated to celebrating the fact we happen to be women, is to give each other a break and support each other. To stop the infighting and rally around, declaring that our differences and our choices are something to be celebrated and not fought over.
So that’s my first Ranty Friday and I really hope to take part more regularly! So feel free to irritate me enough to blog about it!
